A spiral bridge, which is shaped like the number "8", connects the Suwa-yama lookout with the Venus lookout north of Motomachi. Because a team of French astronomers observed the planet Venus at the Suwa-yama lookout in 1874, the bridge was christened Venus Bridge. The bridge itself is approximately 90 meters long and is used as a prominent Kobe view for the downtown area and port. Many couples pledge their love while looking at the night view and still many more have had the proof of love padlock applied at the Key of Love Monument.
