Harborland is a fashionable area on the waterfront adjoining Kobe Port Tower and Naka Pier by a promenade. Known as a lover's sanctuary, this view is an appealing spot for couples according to the Region Activation Support Center. Adjacent to the Naka Pier is "Mosaic," a multifaceted commercial park that is popular for its open mall lined with stores and the large open space looking out upon the sea. The various facilities providing enjoyment include Cinema Mosaic, a movie theater, and the Mosaic Garden, an amusement park with a marvelous view of the sea. Because they face each other on opposite sides of Kobe Port, Mosaic and Meriken Park both look out upon a beautiful night view.
Hanekko is a drawbridge constructed at the dock entrance of the large event area centrally located in the Harborland plaza. It features a double drawbridge construction that one often sees in the Netherlands but was the first of its kind in Japan. Although it went many years unused, the bridge began opening and closing again last year to allow the Splash Kobe amphibious car to pass. At night, the entire bridge is illuminated with approximately 1,700 lights that reflect off the water surface to provide an extremely beautiful sight.
